Frankfort neighbors react to fugitive arrest

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Clarence David Moore turned himself in to Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton on Monday after being on the run for more than four decades. According to Moore’s inmate record, he was serving an 11 year sentence for larceny when he escaped from the Henderson Correction Center in 1971. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety says two other inmates also went missing that day. The correction center in North Carolina has since closed.

According to the North Carolina DPS, Moore is now 66 years old. His neighbors say he has lived at the house with his wife and sister-in-law between three and four years. They say they were shocked to find out Moore was a fugitive. Jim Clark, who lives a house down, say he knew Moore as Ronnie, and had him watch his house while his family went on vacation.

Clark says, "He just told me he used to work on a ship, a deep sea fishing vessel, and he had also done some work on a Kroger building up in Lexington."

Moore never caused any trouble in the quiet Frankfort neighborhood, according to Clark, and is a good person.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Moore is being held in the Franklin County Regional Jail, waiting to see how his case plays out in North Carolina. Moore declined an interview with ABC 36 News.
