Frankfort High School football stadium damaged by flood waters

Head coach says that water has damaged multiple structures on the property

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Frankfort High School football is unable to access its home field and facilities in the Bellepoint neighborhood with several feet of standing water blocking access as of Monday night.

“My first reaction was amazement and shock at the height of the water,” said Davis.

Head coach of the Panthers, Stephen Davis, says that he went to multiple possible entry points before realizing there was no safe way onto the property.

Drone video captured by Michael Wallace of Odyssey Optics Media shows standing water impacting the concessions stand, junior varsity locker room and some of Sower Field.

“As far as the field house goes, I’m not a hundred percent sure. I’ll have to get in there and look at it,” said Davis. “It may have some water in there as well.”

Before Davis can get to the field, he is focusing on helping his student athletes and the Frankfort community with several of their needs.

“A lot of our student body has been displaced due to the flooding,” said Davis. “Our main priority is the safety of our kids. As a coaching staff we’ve been in touch with the football team.”

A live Google Document has been updated throughout the day for the FHS staff to track the situations of each student and their family.

Davis is relying on his community to rally together and help one another.

“Whenever the water recedes and we’re able to get in homes, businesses, the field house and the football field it’s going to be all hands on deck. See a need, fill a need,” said the head coach.
