Four men and one woman detained by ICE agents in court

RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A total of five people were detained by ICE agents in a Madison County District Court room Monday afternoon.

“I was informed that they requested to be in our secure parking, they requested to go upstairs to where we were holding court,” Madison County Circuit Court Clerk David Fernandez said.

Fernandez says they detained five people, one woman and four men. He says all of them had criminal records.

“They then led them out the back through our prisoner docking,” he said.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says it received the call from ICE the day of the arrests in order to prepare local officers for their arrival, but the court did not.

“We were not informed that they were coming, but we certainly did not interfere with their job,” Fernandez said.

We reached out to ICE for a comment on their recent arrests in Madison County but did not hear back.
