LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear and Kentucky State Police are honoring four Kentuckians whose quick actions helped save the life of a trooper shot in the line of duty this summer.
During a ceremony Thursday, officials recognized Jessica and Jimmy Alexander, Taylor Hall, and Officer Adam Arnold for their heroism after Trooper Jude Remilien was shot on July 13 near Blue Grass Airport.
Dash and body camera footage from the incident — which has been blurred due to its graphic nature — shows the chaotic moments after Trooper Remilien was hit. The four honorees rushed to his aid, applying pressure to his wounds and helping keep him alive until more help arrived.
The shooting sparked a manhunt for the suspect, who investigators say later killed a mother and daughter at a church on Old Richmond Road later that same day.
KSP and state officials presented the Citation of Meritorious Achievement award to the group for their courage under pressure.
Jimmy Alexander said afterward that there was no time to think — only to act. “I was just trying to take it all in and make sure he was good and not trying to bleed out,” Alexander said. “My wife and stepdaughter jumped in. Being nurses, they knew what to do.”
Officials say Thursday’s ceremony was a powerful reminder of the community’s bravery and compassion in the face of tragedy.
