Four charged with attempted murder of police officer
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s office arrested four individuals after a traffic stop turned car chase resulted in the attempted murder of a police officer on May 25.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Lieut. Chris Edwards along with Sheriff’s detectives and deputies arrested Stacy O. Savage, Christina Cassie, Tracie L. Johnson, and Staci Savage on Blackwater Church Road about 11 miles east of London around 2:40 p.m.
Originally, Sheriff’s investigators found information regarding the location of Stacy O. Savage who was being looked for based on information that he was a non-compliant sex offender. When the investigators found Savage, he was driving a white Cadillac Escalade on Blackwater Church Road and deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The Escalade accelerated in an attempt to evade law enforcement. In doing this, Savage steered the vehicle straight into the path of Sheriff’s Detective Robert Reed’s cruiser, intentionally hitting and disabling the cruiser.
Investigators arrested Savage and the other three passengers. In searching the occupants and the vehicle, several bags of methamphetamine, needles and other paraphernalia were found. Through investigation, it was determined that Savage was living in a location on Blackwater Road in direct violation of his sex offender registration details.
The charges were as follows according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
- Stacy O. Savage age 49 of Blackwater Rd., London charged with attempted murder of a police officer; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; three counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree; failure to comply with sex offender registration – first offense. In addition, this individual was charged on a Kentucky parole board sex offender conditional discharge violation warrant charging absconding parole supervision; failure to attend treatment for substance abuse; use of a controlled substance – cocaine; failure to report change in home address to parole officer; failure to report to parole officer as directed; termination from Kentucky sex offender treatment program regarding being a sex offender conditionally discharged regarding a conviction of rape – third-degree in Laurel Circuit Court who was released to sex offender conditional discharge and has violated the terms of the sex offender conditional discharge.
- Christina Cassise age 30 of Highway 3094 East Bernstadt charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Tracie L. Johnson age 43 of North Laurel Rd., East Bernstadt charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Staci Savage age 23 of Blackwater Rd., London charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia.
All four individuals were taken to the Laurel County Correctional Center.
