Forum Thursday looks at, educates on state’s campaign finance regs

Online forum sponsored by Together Frankfort, features state director

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Together Frankfort invites citizens to join virtually at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, for a one-hour forum on campaign finance. Participants must pre- register to participate, through this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/…/reg…/WN_4oyudYtYSUiJVFqCig58QQ

The featured speaker will be Kentucky Registry of Election Finance Executive Director John Steffen. This forum, hosted by Together Frankfort, was organized as part of Together Frankfort’s Dark Money Working Group’s recommendations on better educating ourselves and the general public on campaign finance rules and requirements.

With decades of legal experience, and working daily on campaign financial requirements, Steffen has hands-on knowledge of rules and regulations concerning how much money candidates can raise, how they raise it (and also how candidates cannot raise it), and how to report to the public about their fundraising. We will also discuss how much financial disclosure is required for Kentucky’s candidates and how this compares with other states.

Steffen also knows the term “testimonial affairs” and all the other words in Kentucky’s campaign finance rules. (Rules on testimonial affairs, by the way, originate directly from Kentucky’s campaign finance laws!)  After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
