Fort Campbell unit marking change of command

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) — Fort Campbell’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, will officially mark a change of command on Friday.

The sprawling Army post on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line will have a ceremony as Col. Peter N. Benchoff turns over command to Col. Brett G. Sylvia.

The post says the ceremony is a military tradition representing formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit. The passing of colors, standards or ensigns from an outgoing commander to an incoming one ensures the unit and its soldiers are never without official leadership.
