The North Carolinian is at three under par and tied for 66th place heading into round two of the tournament. The opening round of his professional career featured five five birdies and two bogeys.

“I try to tell myself that it’s just golf, but it’s different,” said Goff. ‘These guys are just so good. It was nice to play in front of a little bit of a crowd. It was a fun day. I played well. I need to drive it better. That’s what held me back a little bit.”

Two more former Kentucky players, Stephen Stallings Junior and Cooper Musselman, shot rounds just under par as well. But, both are behind Goff in the leaderboard. Stallings Jr. is tied for 86th place and Musselman is tied for 108th place.

“I played pretty solid,” said Stallings Junior. “I feel pretty good about my game. I feel no pressure right now. Just going to try and play my best. I have plenty of birdies in me.”

Lexington’s Josh Teater came back from scoring three bogeys on the front nine to ending the day at four under par. An eagle on the 11th hole and two birdies after leaves the Henry Clay High School alumnus tied for 46th place.

“I think it was a rollercoaster the whole way,” said Teater. “I just, I keep feeling like I’m not very far away. Some days it’s the putter, some days it’s the irons, some days a combination of both. I’ve kind of found myself where I am right now a lot this year. So I’m not going to shy away from it, I’m going to come out in the morning and hopefully hit it where I’m looking a little bit more and roll it in and add up a low one.”

John Michael Butler, who hails from Louisville and went to Auburn University, shot one under par in the opening round.
