Former UK students charged with rape will have case sent to Grand Jury

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The case against two former University of Kentucky students will head to a grand jury after appearing at a preliminary hearing this morning.

18-year-old Angus Thompson is charged with 1st degree rape while 18-year-old Addison Adkins is charged with 1st degree rape and 2nd degree strangulation in connection to an alleged incedent that happened on UK’s campus in February.

The court heard from a University of Kentucky Police officer as he answered questions from both Adkins’ and Thompson’s attorneys.

The victim in this case alleges she was sexually assaulted by both Adkins and Thompson in Adkins’ dorm room when she went over there from Tuesday, February 18th to Wednesday, February 19th.

Both suspects attorneys in court asking the officer about the surveillance footage from the dorm which allegedly shows the victim going back to Adkins’ room the next day after the alleged assault.

The officer says when he interviewed the victim, she described Adkins’ behavior as “aggressive” and “hypersexual,” adding that Adkins grabbed her throat.

He says the victim also told officers she was too intoxicated and in shock to leave the situation; a statement that was repeatedly questioned by the suspects’ attorneys.

The officer testified the victim suffered bruising to the neck among other injuries which he said led him to charge both suspects.

Now, Thompson and Adkins case is being turned over to a grand jury for possible indictment. Both are currently out on bond and must stay home with certain exceptions.

Both Thompson and Adkins’ attorneys declined to comment on the case.
