Former UK basketball player Ed Davender suffers heart attack
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Former UK Basketball player Ed Davender is reportedly on life support after suffering a heart attack.
Davender’s friends say he had the heart attack Wednesday in a taxi while traveling from Keeneland to Nicholasville. They say the cab driver rushed him to UK Hospital.
Some teammates and other Wildcats who didn’t play with Davender, but knew him, have reportedly rushed to his bedside to hold a vigil.
49-year-old Davender was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school in Brooklyn. He played at UK from 1984-1988, and ranks 11th on the all-time scoring list with 1,637 points. He was a third round pick of Washington in 1988, but the discovery of a heart murmur ended any hopes of a pro career.
Davender was later convicted of running a series of UK basketball ticket scams and went to prison for the crimes.
