Former U.S. Army Director pleads guilty in bribery scheme

WASHINGTON D.C., Pa. (WTVQ) – The Department of Justice says a former senior U.S. Army civilian employee pleaded guilty to conspiracy to accept more than $100,000 in bribes and to a related firearms offense.

According to his plea agreement, while employed as the range director at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, 67 year old Victor Garo of Mililani, Hawaii, accepted more than $100,000 worth of bribes.

The DOJ says the bribes included cash, automobiles and firearms from an employee of a federal contractor who sought business from the U.S. Army.

In return, Garo admitted he used his position to benefit the contractor in securing U.S. Army contracts.

Garo is the second public official and third individual to plead guilty as a result of an ongoing investigation into fraud and bribery at Schofield Barracks.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 2020.
