Former police chief running for mayor of Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – There was a last-minute entry in the race to be Lexington’s next mayor.
On Tuesday, the final day to file to run for office in Kentucky, former Lexington Police Chief Ronnie Bastin announced he is running for mayor of Lexington.
Bastin was serving as Commissioner of Public Safety, a post he resigned from just before he jumped into the race for mayor.
Lexington current mayor, Jim Gray, announced last month he was not seeking another term but instead, was running for Congress.
In addition to Bastin, former Vice Mayor Linda Gorton, LFCUG Council Member Kevin Stinnett, Ike Lawrence, and William Weyman are also vying for the job.
The top two finishers in the May primary election will move on to the November general election.
