Former officer charged with sexual abuse in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A former Owensboro police officer, 35-year-old Aleph Zavala, has been indicted on sexual abuse charges by the Daviess County Grand Jury.

The indictment follows allegations of sexual misconduct reported while Zavala was on duty at the Owensboro Police Department.

The complaint was filed in December 2023, after police responded to a burglary alarm at a U-Haul storage facility on W. Parrish Avenue in Owensboro.

The woman involved, who was living in one of the storage units and claimed to have permission from the business owner, alleged that Zavala returned after officers departed and sexually assaulted her.

Zavala is currently held at the Daviess County Detention Center on a bond of $100,000.
