Former Lexington Mayor Dies From Bacterial Infection
The Lexington-Herald Leader reported the passing of former Lexington mayor H. Foster Pettit Saturday morning.
The paper reported Pettit died Saturday morning in Hammond, Louisiana. Pettit was 84 and had been in an ICU battling a life-threatening bacterial infection according to the paper.
Pettit was fishing with friends and family on a fanboat in October when the boat capsized in shallow water.
Pettit was cut on the leg, according to the report and stranded for several hours in the water. The report said the Coast Guard rescued the group but it wasn’t long before Pettit was diagnosed with a vibrio infection common in coastal waters.
Pettit was mayor from 1972 to 1978.
