Former lawmaker John Tilley accused of rape has his final status hearing

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Friday (5/10) marks the final status hearing for John Tilley, a former Kentucky lawmaker accused of rape. Tilley is scheduled to appear before a judge Friday morning at 10:30.

Tilley was arrested on August 8th, 2023, and charged with rape stemming from an incident on April 15 of last year. He pleaded not guilty and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Subsequently, the case was waived to a grand jury, where he was later indicted.

Tilley’s legal representatives assert his innocence of any criminal wrongdoing and highlight his full cooperation in the investigation.

The trial is slated to begin on July 22nd.
