Former KY doctor pleads guilty to illegally prescribing Suboxone

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Prosecutors announced Thursday that a former Eastern Kentucky doctor pleaded guilty to charges involving a pain clinic he ran in Lawrence County.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, 57-year-old Curtis Edens improperly prescribed the drug Suboxone.

Prosecutors say he also charged Medicaid patients cash for services, which is a violation of Medicaid policies.

It was also alleged Edens pre-signed prescriptions for Suboxone to be handed out when he was not in the office.

As part of his guilty plea, the attorney general says Edens agreed to pay $15,000 in restitution within six months of the sentencing date, scheduled for May 24, and agreed not to seek reinstatement of his Kentucky Medical License.
