Former Kentucky State Police trooper sentenced to prison after assault

CARROLL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A former Kentucky State Police trooper has been sentenced to prison following an attack during a traffic stop in Carroll County, according to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.

Officials say 28-year-old Haydon Kilbourne was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to assault and terroristic threatening.

According to investigators, Kilbourne used his police baton to attack a man during a traffic stop in 2023, causing injuries. Authorities say he also threatened to kill the man before the assault.

The Attorney General’s Office says Kilbourne agreed to several conditions as part of his plea deal. Officials say he will not be allowed to apply for employment with any law enforcement agency after his release and has agreed to relinquish his law enforcement credentials.
