Former Kentucky lawmaker John Tilley back in court

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Former state legislator John Tilley was back in court, for what was expected to be the final status hearing before his July trial on rape charges.

Tilley was arrested on August 8th, 2023, and charged with rape stemming from an incident on April 15 of last year. He pleaded not guilty and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Subsequently, the case was waived to a grand jury, where he was later indicted.

Tilley’s lawyers maintain his innocence of any criminal wrongdoing and highlight his full cooperation in the investigation.

The trial is slated to begin on July 22nd.
