Former Kentuckian experiencing hurricane in Texas

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – We’re getting a first hand account of what it’s been like to bear witness to the storm.
ABC 36 spoke with a Kentuckian who just recently moved to Corpus Christi, Texas.

Clayton Seymore says he feels lucky because his area didn’t get hit as hard as some others despite only being 20 minutes from the ocean. Corpus Christi had a voluntary evacuation and has lost power on and off but Clayton Seymore tells me it’s nothing like he’s experienced before.

“It’s definitely eery when the town, you know when everybody is leaving and it’s empty and just like being in the mall where there is big open areas of the mall and you can hear the wind howling.”

He says the town started to shut down Thursday in preparation for the storms.

“A lot of places were closing early, like 5 o’ clock early and it was still sunny out and nice at that point and even Walmart and you know Walmart doesn’t like to close and Walmart’s were like closing up at 5 o’ clock.”

He prepared by putting his belongings up on crates and even wrapped his mattress in a tarp. He says his boss, who lives 30 minutes away in Rockport didn’t have time to prepare.

“You can see a, like a line of demarcation on the wall of how high the water was. They had an above ground propane tank got thrown into their house. It’s totaled, support beams inside the house are sideways, its absolutely devastating.”

Seymore says seeing someone close to him lose everything because of hurricane Harvey really puts the storms power into perspective.

“I know the forecast last night was showing the hurricane doing like a u-turn and coming through again which would be unbelievable, but even if it does,it will just bring rain.”

Seymore says he is thankful he and his boss are safe and hopes those Harvey is hurting are getting the help they need.
