Former boys’ basketball coach for Sayre charged with molestation in Louisiana
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A former high school basketball coach from Lexington is facing molestation charges in Louisiana.
The Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office says 62-year-old Steven Weir was arrested in Lexington while visiting relatives on July 25.
Investigators say Weir is accused of molesting a student at Riverdale Academy in Louisiana, where Weir was a employed as a basketball coach and teacher.
According to the sheriff’s office, the molestation began in 2006 and continued until the victim graduated in 2012.
Weir is back in Louisiana, booked in jail on charges of molestation of a juvenile, prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student and extortion, computer aided solicitation of a minor and cyberstalking,
According to the Herald-Leader, Weir was fired following his arrest.
Weir was a coach for the Sayre High School boys’ basketball team in the 1990s.
