Former Berea Police Officer arrested after standoff

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – A former Berea Police Office is now behind bars, accused of trying to kill a police officer after a standoff lasting about six hours.

Kentucky State Police say people living along Raven Drive called 911 around two o’clock Thursday morning reporting gunshots.

Troopers say when officers arrived, Herold Hill, 58, started shooting at the officers. Troopers returned fire but say no one was hit.

Hill then barricaded himself in his home with his wife, son and teenage grandson, according to KSP.

Officers established a perimeter around his home and the KSP Special Response Team was contacted. Once it arrived, troopers say Hill turned himself in around nine o’clock.

Hill was arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer. He’s lodged at the Madison County Detention Center.

Troopers say no one was hurt during the shooting.

KSP is still investigating.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Police Department, and Berea Police Department all were at the scene along with KSP.
