“Food for Fines” program update
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Parking Authority (LPA) announced today that its nationally recognized “Food for Fines” canned food drive collected nearly 1,000 cans in its first week. Over 60 parking citations were cleared using the program. The program will continue until December 18.
As a result of the campaign, LPA, God’s Pantry Food Bank, and the City of Lexington have received international media attention. Most recently, Food for Fines was featured in NBC Universal’s Season of Kindness and in articles on Today.com, the Huffington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Examiner.com, AOL News, CBS News, Yahoo News UK and even as far away as DunyaNews in Pakistan.
Customers who bring in 10 cans of food will receive $15 off any LEXPARK or Lexington Police issued on-street parking citation. There is no limit on the number of cans customers with multiple citations may bring in. Past due citations are eligible. The LEXPARK office is located at 122 North Broadway.
All canned food donations received by LEXPARK will be donated to God’s Pantry Food Bank. Canned vegetables which are at least 14-15 oz. large and protein items such as canned meat, bean or peanut butter are suggested. Expired, damaged or opened food donations will not be accepted.
LEXPARK is also reminding everyone that they will not be enforcing meter parking regulations this Friday, November 27.
