Floyd County Schools makes new administrative appointments

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ/Press Releases) – Floyd County Schools has announced two selections for leadership roles as Interim Superintendent Anna Shepherd takes on her role leading the district.

Kimberly A. Grubb will lead the Early Childhood Department and Jennifer Wells has been named the Special Education Consultant for Floyd County Schools.

“I am blessed, honored and excited to embark on this new journey. I believe that a
key element in being successful in school and in life is starting with a strong foundation and this foundation begins in early childhood. Working with our EC team and our amazing families and community members has been a wonderful experience,” said Grubb. “Our Early Childhood team has seen great success with school readiness and I’m excited about continuing our work in preparing our youngest learners to be ready for school and life.”

“Jennifer brings almost two decades of classroom experience with her to this role for our district and has served as the lead for the school special education team. She’s also a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT), a rigorous certification process that most certainly demonstrates her commitment to growing professionally,” shared Shepherd. “Our district leadership team and I look forward to working with Jennifer more closely and are excited about what she brings to the table. It’s going to be an amazing year and we are thrilled to be planning our 2021-2022 school year.”

Grubb has worked with children in Floyd County for 25 years, starting at Martin Elementary before going to May Valley. She taught in Head Start and Preschool classrooms for 16 years and has served as the Education Consultant for Early Childhood for the last nine years. Over that time, Grubb has coordinated various programs for Floyd County Schools, been on multiple district level teams and was inducted into the Floyd Cooperative Extension Hall of Fame.

Wells is starting her 20th year as an educator. She has served the students of Floyd County as a primary teacher at Prestonsburg Elementary and as a middle school special education teacher at Adams Middle and Duff-Allen Central Elementary.

When discussing Grubb, Shepherd stated, “Kim is a wonderful addition to any team. Her dedication to the children of Floyd County Schools is admirable and an example to all and she will only take the EC department forward to more success.”

On becoming the Special Education Consultant, Wells said, “Working with such wonderful exceptional students and their families has fueled my passion about providing equitable opportunities and learning experiences to help students reach their full potential and achieve success in their future endeavors. I’m eager and look forward to being a support within our learning community. I’ve worked with the best students, staff and administrators throughout my career and appreciate all the support I received from colleagues along the way. I want my life to always be an example of one that helps others make their most positive impact on the world. This new role will allow me to help more people and to help provide more opportunities for students and staff.”
