Floyd County schools join incentive program for workers

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Floyd County Board of Education has approved a pay incentive for staff who get the COVID vaccination, Schools Superintendent Anna Shepherd said.

Those who are a full- or part-time employee of Floyd County Schools and have been fully vaccinated by December 1, 2021, will receive a one-time reimbursement of $100 from the Kentucky Department of Education. KDE will use up to $8.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds to reimburse districts for up to 88,000 incentive payments.

Being fully vaccinated means a person has had both doses of the vaccine and is 14 days or more out from the second dose.

“We want to thank the Kentucky Department of Education for their continuing support of helping us stay in our schools and have in-person instruction. We appreciate the incentive of $100 and hope that every employee in our district can be eligible for this reimbursement,” Shepherd said, applauding the board for agreeing to match the state’s $100 meaning employees will reeive $200.

Shepherd concludes saying that, “As long as there are steps we can take to help stop the spread of the virus, we will take those steps. We hope everyone will consider vaccination. We encourage you to speak to your doctor about the vaccine and whether it is best for you. Please ignore the misinformation out there on social media and speak to a medical professional you trust. Our positivity rate is high and we want to take all steps we can to protect children. Please help us protect Floyd County’s children. Talk to your doctor about being vaccinated. Wear a mask when you are out in public. Try to maintain social distancing. Please do your part to help us protect our kids.”
