Flooding forces Water Rescues, Road Closures

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Rain caused widespread flooding across Lexington overnight causing water rescues and road closures throughout the city.

According to Lexington Fire Public Information Officer Jordan Saas, there were four water rescues that were reported earlier this morning.

Saas says the four water rescues involved cars getting caught in high water during the heavy rain around midnight.

He says the Lexington Fire Department will work longer hours during weather conditions like this to help with road conditions.

Saas also says fire crews will continue to be on alert throughout the weekend in anticipation of more rainfall.

Lexington Fire Department says there were several lightning strikes reported last night, but Saas says there was no disruption in fire department operations.

According to Lexington Police, their radios were taken offline last night due to a lightning strike.

Police say the affected radios were switched with portable units.
