Flags ordered to half-staff for fallen Army Major Scott Swindell

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff Friday in honor of a U.S. Army soldier who died while serving on active duty in Germany.

According to the governor’s office, flags will be lowered until sunset to honor U.S. Army Major Scott Swindell, who passed away on February 17 in Landstuhl, Germany. Swindell was assigned to the 16th Sustainment Brigade at the time of his death.

Officials say Swindell will be laid to rest Friday afternoon with full military honors at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations across the state to join in lowering flags in tribute to Swindell’s service and sacrifice.
