Five puppies abandoned near Powell Co. Animal Shelter
POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — Powell County Animal Shelter is at full capacity after taking in 19 animals Monday, including a litter of puppies found abandoned in a tote just right down the street from the shelter.
Teresa Stidham is the shelter assistant, a job she’s held for more than 12 years.
She says the puppies were left in the sun with no water or food and were filthy after eliminating on themselves. She thinks they may have been there for hours.
Stidham says she doesn’t understand what goes through someone’s mind to make a decision like that. She says they should have came to see them because the shelter was open and they were less than a mile away.
She says in all they took in three separate litters of kittens, the puppies, some large dogs, and a pregnant cat.
The Powell County Animal Shelter is a kill shelter.
Stidham says they try to do the best they can but its a small shelter and they only have so much room.
She says they will continue to take in animals but they need people to come out and adopt them.
