First Lady Britainy Beshear visiting Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – First Lady Britainy Beshear joined Kentucky legislators and health leaders this morning at the University of Kentucky to highlight state funding for pediatric cancer research.

The event took place at 9:30 a.m. inside Karpf Auditorium at UK Chandler Hospital, where September was proclaimed Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The group showcased recent grants from the Kentucky Pediatric Cancer Research Trust Fund, which supports research at the Markey Cancer Center and provides help for patients and families across the state.

Alongside First Lady Beshear, State Senate leader Max Wise, Representative Nick Wilson, UK physicians, patients, and families affected by pediatric cancer were also in attendance.

Since 2015, the fund has allocated more than $36 million to make childhood cancer a state health priority and to expand access to innovative treatments throughout Kentucky.
