First Ever “River Blast” Hopes To Build KY River Popularity
Another event took place for the first time Saturday and hoped to raise awareness of the importance of the Kentucky River.
River Blast made its debut at Fort Boonesborough State Park near Richmond. Supporters of the group and fans of the Kentucky River raced canoes and also took part in educational exhibits about the river.
The group said in the 60s and 70s, thousands enjoyed Boonesborough Beach. They’d like to create that type of enthusiasm again.
“This has been a dream come true. We’ve been wanting to get people out here to the river and it’s an attempt to take the river back and have people care about the quality of water,” said Pat Banks, Kentucky River Keeper.
River blast wrapped up Saturday evening with some fireworks.
