Firefighters still have job to do while mourning Logsdon’s death

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Lexington firefighters say they still have a job to do as they work through the pain of losing one of their own to cancer.

For many firefighters in Lexington, they woke up to the news of Matt Logsdon’s death. Logsdon fought fires in Lexington for ten years. His colleagues say it was after the Blue Grass Stockyard fire in January he started looking ill. It was then, he was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

In an April interview, Logsdon described the cancer in his lungs, bones and other areas. He passed away in Louisville Wednesday morning, the same day many of his crew members from Lexington had planned to visit him.

Instead of that visit, they’re working Wednesday as they would any other day.

“You know that’s what he would want us to do. That’s what he would do if it was one of us, you know, is just continue on,” says Captain Dustin Whited. “For us, that’s what’s getting us by is being able to go out and make runs, and we’re still together, the crew’s out making runs today and that’s how we deal with things.”
