Firefighters investigating if pest control smoke device linked to fire

Home's attic damaged by fire, smoke, water

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Fire investigators say they are trying to determine whether a smoke device used in pest control may have contributed to a fire Thursday morning.

A woman called Lexington firefighters shortly after 11 a.m. reporting her home on Fifth Street was on fire. When crews arrived, they found smoke pouring from the attic area on one end of the two-store brick home.

The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was limited mostly to smoke and water in the attic area, according to the Fire Department.

The battalion chief on the scene said pest control crews had been using a smoke device in that part of the residence and investigators were trying to determine whether that could be linked to the fire.

The woman was home alone at the time and was not injured.
