Firefighters install free smoke alarms

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Firefighters knocked on nearly 1,100 doors in Lexington to install free smoke alarms.

According to Major Jordan Saas, there needs to be a working smoke alarm in every bedroom, hallway, and level of a home.

He recommends that you replace your smoke alarms every ten years and change your batteries twice a year.

“Every time you change your clocks, change your batteries in your smoke alarm as well. So, that’s twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall,” said Jordan Saas.

If you need a new smoke alarm installed, you can call the Lexington Fire Department and they do it for free.
