UPDATE: Fire Department calls fire at Peddler’s Mall arson

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Fire Department says an investigation into a fire Monday night at the Peddler’s Mall found that the fire was intentionally set.

Firefighters are now asking for help from the public in finding a suspect, particularly anyone who was in Peddler’s Mall or in the area around 7:30 p.m. when the fire happened.

Fire at Peddler’s Mall in Lexington called ‘suspicious’

Investigators are calling a fire Monday night at the Peddler’s Mall in Lexington ‘suspicious.’

Firefighters say the call came in around 7:30 p.m.

Investigators say it appears the fire started in a booth in the back of the building on East New Circle Road.

Firefighters say the sprinkler system helped contain the fire until crews arrived to put it out.

Investigators estimated there were 15 people in the mall at the time, which was open for business. They all escaped unharmed, according to firefighters.

Investigators say two booths were damaged by fire and several more suffered smoke and water damage.

Firefighters were on the scene for nearly three hours.
