Investigation continues at scene of deadly Beattyville Fire

BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Investigators were back out on Wednesday at the scene of a deadly fire in Lee County.

The fire happened in Beattyville and claimed the lives of three people Tuesday morning. Firefighters arrived at the scene on County Club Road at around 4:30 a.m., but could not get inside the home because the roof collapsed.

The home had been converted to apartments. Firefighters say 13 people were inside at the time and ten of them managed to get out. Crews were finally able to get inside late Tuesday night and found the bodies of the three victims with the help of cadaver dogs.

Names of the victims have not been released yet. Fire investigators say DNA tests will determine their identities.

The Red Cross is helping the ten people who are now displaced.

A fire department captain told ABC 36 the home did not have working smoke detectors. ABC 36 was also told they believe the fire started in the back of the home, but are not sure what may have caused it.
