Fire heavily damages Garrard County business
GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – An early-morning fire did heavy damage to a furniture manufacturing plant in Lancaster.
The Garrard County Fire Department says the fire started just before 6:30 a.m. Friday when employees of Rocky Top Furniture, Inc. arrived and turned on a piece of equipment that collects dust.
Chief Tevis Graham of the Garrard County Fire Department says the doors blew off the machine and the fire erupted.
He says the employees were able to get out of the building and there were no injuries.
The fire spread to a forklift with a propane tank and the tank exploded, sending flames to a nearby building.
Graham says that building contained barrels of varnish for finishing furniture and quickly went up.
Both buildings were destroyed.
A third building sustained damage to the outside.
Fire departments from Garrard, Boyle and Jessamine County responded to the fire.
Tevis says the crews left the scene around 1:30 p.m.
Rocky Top Furniture, Inc. employs around 50 employees.
It has another location in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
