Fire destroys home, displaces several people

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)– A late night fire has left two families without a home this morning. The home in the 200 block of East 6th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was completely gutted by that fire Sunday night. The owner tells ABC 36 that the house was actually divided into three apartments and two were occupied and being rented at the time of the fire.

Fire crews arrived at the burning home around 10 p.m. Sunday night. They say the fire was coming from the rear of the home. They were able to put out the flame before it spread.  The home to the right of the structure suffered fire damage to its side paneling.

Neighbor, Jamie Milton saw the flames on her way home from work and says she feared the worst.

"When I first got on the street, I seen the cops and stuff down this way towards my house and I’m like oh my god that’s my house!," Milton said.

"When I got right here in front of my house and looked over in that direction you could see nothing but flames coming from the back of the house. I’ve heard that the people that live there, you know just moved in and I was like that’s crazy, but I do feel for them and I pray for ’em".

The owner says that to his knowledge no one was admitted to the hospital, but that he has put one of the tenants into a motel for now. Investigators are still looking into the cause of that fire.
