Fire damages Georgetown business

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Scott County and Georgetown fire departments responded to a fire around 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Bourbon Street. Georgetown Tool and Manufacturing has been at the location since 1972.

Investigators believe the fire was accidental and caused by a failure in one of the machines. No one was inside when the fire started.

Justin VanMeter, who owns the business, says he employs seven people. He hopes to have the business up and running again in 5 to 10 days. He believes about 10 minor pieces of equipment were lost in the fire, along with 5 major machines, some of which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

VanMeter says, "We have another side of the shop that appears to be unaffected and we can’t wait to get that back up and running so everybody’s getting a paycheck and customers are happy."
