Fire costs family their home and their pet

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A family loses a home and a pet in a late-night fire in Lexington.

The fire broke out just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday at 1748 Farmview Drive.

Firefighters said they arrived to find the back end of the home on fire.

A father and his two children got out of the home.

Firefighters said a smoke detector woke up one of the children, who alerted everyone else.

Unfortunately the family’s dog did not survive.

The father suffered minor burns to his hand and a firefighter hurt his ankle but both will be okay.

The homeowner told firefighters he thinks the fire started in the kitchen.

The home is a total loss.
