Final day for Kentuckians to apply for FEMA tornado disaster assistance

KENTUCKY (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Friday is the final day for Kentuckians impacted by the May tornadoes to apply for FEMA disaster assistance.

Homeowners and renters in Caldwell, Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, Trigg, and Union counties who suffered uninsured damage must file applications by 11:59 p.m. Friday (8/22), according to FEMA.

Officials remind survivors to first file insurance claims, since federal disaster assistance cannot duplicate insurance payments.

Applications can be submitted online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app, by calling 800-621-3362, or in person at any Disaster Recovery Center.

When applying, survivors should have their contact information, Social Security numbers, a detailed list of damages, and insurance information readily available.
