Figherfighters gather to hone skills

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Thousands of firefighters from across the state are gathering in Lexington, to sharpen their skills at the 86th Annual Kentucky State Fire School, according to officials.

Classroom and hands-on training began on Wednesday, and will continue though June 7, says Heather Baber of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. She continued to explain that there are over 1,200 firefighters and first responders that have gathered, and they will be able to pick from over 40 courses, including: IFSAC airport firefighting, heavy vehicle rescue, rapid intervention team training, and much more.

“This annual fire school provides them the education and tools they need to be able to handle different types of fires and other specialized rescues,” said Kentucky Fire Commission Executive Director Ronnie Day.

A bike night with live music will be held Saturday night, in addition to the Kentucky State Fire school, says officials, and motorcycles are not mandatory. The bike event is free and open to the public.
