LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Friday! Here’s the gist of what you need to know weather-wise. We are tracking a few showers and storms ahead of a cold front Friday afternoon and early evening. The front passes overnight and we are left with low humidity and seasonably warm temperatures on Saturday. On Father’s Day the heat begins to climb and we will be reaching the low-to-mid 90s across the region. That heat and humidity will remain with us into next week.
Friday Storms
A cold front will approaching from the northwest during the day on Friday. This will make it feel warm and muggy throughout the day. This front will also help fire up isolated showers and storms across the region during the afternoon. A few of these storms could be strong, particularly in eastern Kentucky where there is a low-end Level 1 Severe Risk. These showers and storms will be isolated and most of the region will stay dry.
Really Nice Saturday
Overnight the cold front sweeps through the region. This will bring a shot of refreshing air Saturday morning. Temperatures will be in the low 60s with low humidity. This low humidity will stick around throughout the day. Temperatures will be reaching the mid-80s by the afternoon, but it will be feeling comfortable outside for this time of the year. With plentiful afternoon sunshine in the forecast, make sure you are wearing sunscreen as we have a UV Index forecast of 10.
Hot & Humid Next Week
The heat will arrive on Sunday. Because the air will still be relatively dry, I expect the temperatures to climb into the low-to-possibly mid 90s Sunday afternoon. The humidity won’t be unbearable, but it will be noticeable later in the day. The humidity really spikes Monday and Tuesday as tropical moisture arrives across the region. Our ‘Muggy Meter’ will be pushing the ‘Miserable’ category as dewpoints will be climbing into the low 70s. The Heat Index or the ‘Feels-like Temperature’ will be pushing the upper 90s and low 100s as well. This added moisture will spark pop-up showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours Monday and Tuesday . We should dry out a bit mid-week and that will lead to even hotter temperatures, reaching the mid-90s possibly. This heat will stick around through the end of next week as well. Take care of yourselves and make sure you are checking in on your elderly friends and neighbors, especially those without A/C.
