FEMA urges Kentuckians to apply for disaster aid before deadlines approach

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky storm recovery is still underway, and FEMA is reminding survivors of this spring’s severe weather that deadlines to apply for assistance are fast approaching.

According to FEMA, more than $2.6 million has already been approved for survivors of the May tornadoes, but applications for that aid must be submitted by Tuesday, July 23.

Assistance is available for rental costs, home repairs, and even medical or funeral expenses related to the storms. For those impacted by the April floods, the application deadline is Friday, July 25.

Officials warn that if you’ve already applied, you may get a call or text from a number you don’t recognize — it could be FEMA, so they encourage you to answer or call back.

To apply, visit DisasterAssistance.gov or call FEMA at 800-621-3362.
