FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers open to help Kentuckians impacted by April floods

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Gov. Andy Beshear announced that FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are now open in eight of the 13 counties approved for Individual Assistance following April’s severe flooding.

According to the release, families in Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford counties can visit any Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) to apply for federal aid and get recovery assistance. All 13 counties are expected to have a DRC open by April 30.

The centers are opening after President Donald Trump partially approved Gov. Beshear’s April 11 request for a Major Disaster Declaration.

“We are grateful to be working with FEMA to open these centers in each of the declared counties,” said Gov. Beshear. “These centers allow our families that have already been through so much the opportunity to talk directly with an expert who will help them start their recovery and rebuilding process.”

Residents and business owners in the approved counties can apply for aid by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov, using the FEMA App, or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362).

Gov. Beshear’s office says additional counties could be added to the declaration once ongoing damage assessments are complete.

As part of the state’s ongoing response, Beshear also activated the State Emergency Operations Center and renewed price gouging protections.

More information on DRC locations and hours is available at DisasterAssistance.gov.
