Feed Our Neighbor: Community members continue to help those in need

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – While the numbers may show hints of recovery, many families still are struggling financially from the economic shutdown caused by the Coronavirus.

A Fayette County organization is giving food to those who need it. No questions asked.

Though aimed at gluten-free and food sensitivity needs, all who register will be served.

Co-Founder of Feed Our Neighbor Denise Walsh said, We give them wholesome ingredients. We have chefs making food with great natural ingredients and donating that to people who have been unemployed, had the rug pulled out from under them, maybe they were already getting assistance but groceries started getting too expensive they could afford much.”

Anyone who arrives without pre-registering will also be served but only while supplies last.

Meal pick-ups will continue every Wednesday and Saturday 2-3 p.m., subject to change, throughout the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The project launched Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

Site Coordinator Barbara Moore adds, “all of our clients have been just so appreciative of the food many of them are out of work, they don’t know when they’re going back to work and they just need some help.’

The Coronavirus put a lot of people out of work and relief sometimes has been slow to come. Walsh says, many still haven’t been paid. “A lot of what we’re hearing is that a lot of people haven’t received their unemployment quite honesty.

Even members of the organization can relate to their clients situations. Moore adds, “I’m also unemployed and not getting my unemployment for the past month and I’ve come in here just kind of sad but by the time I leave here it just uplifts my heart and makes me feel so much better about doing something like this and helping people and I know that we’re feed those that need some help.”

Feed Our Neighbor has also expanded to Woodford County in Versailles.
