FDA: Noodle recall due to listeria concerns
Veggie Noodle Company is voluntarily recalling its Fresh Veggie Ramen with Chicken Broth because of listeria concerns.
The company says the separately packaged egg, from Almark Foods, that is included in the product may be contaminated with listeria and has been linked to an illness outbreak.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, but Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to the FDA.
Officials say Veggie Noodle has not received reports of illness associated with the recalled Fresh Veggie Ramen with Chicken Broth product. They say no other Veggie Noodle/Cece’s products are affected by the recall, and may be eaten.
