FCPS school board approves broad external audit
LEXINGTON, Ky. ( ABC36 NEWS NOW) — On Monday, the Fayette County School Board decided to move forward and approved a comprehensive external operational and financial review.
According to a release from the school district, the board accepted the recommendation from the audit committee to hire Weaver and Tidwell a nationally ranked accounting firm.
Board Chair Tyler Murphy says the audit is intended to strengthen public trust and ensure the district is operating efficiently while supporting student success.
The audit will provide a detailed review of budgeting, financial controls, district processes, and department operations. It also allows for a forensic audit if any concerns are identified. Findings will help guide improvements aligned with the district’s New Way Forward strategic plan.
District leaders emphasized that this audit will supplement, not replace, the special examination currently being conducted by Kentucky State Auditor, Allison Ball.
