FBI child porn investigation leads to Richmond teacher’s arrest

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) — The FBI has arrested a Richmond private school teacher for possession of child pornography after federal agents searched his Berea home Monday.

Larry Foley Jr. was an elementary school teacher at LaFontaine Preparatory School.

The school’s co-founder, Gus LaFontaine, says a federal agent told him the child porn investigation has nothing to do with students at his school.

In a letter to parents, the co-founder says he was shocked to hear the news and that he knew nothing of an investigation.

Foley taught social studies and engineering to 3rd-5th graders.

LaFontaine says the FBI called him Monday to tell him they searched Foley’s home and arrested him.

As soon as the co-founder heard the news, Foley was terminated.

He’s facing federal charges for possession of child pornography.

Often, state police handle these kind of cases we report on. It’s unclear why the FBI is working this one but we do know it could make the consequences more severe.

LaFontaine says the safety of their students is paramount and he’s working to figure out how to tell them the difficult news.

He says Foley passed a background check in March.

The investigation is still ongoing.
