Fayette starts year with record month for new COVID cases
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The first month of 2021 had the most reported COVID-19 cases in Lexington yet: 6,155.
Lexington reported 260 new COVID-19 cases during the weekend — 134 Saturday and 126 Sunday — bringing the total to 29,549 cases since the outbreak began in March 2020, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s morning report Monday.
A total of 62% of the city’s total cases have come since Nov. 1.
The county also recorded 23 deaths in January, with a total of 195.
The monthly totals of COVID-19 cases during the outbreak are:

- 2,538, August
- 2,804, September
- 2,736, October
- 6,070, November
- 5,991, December
- 6,155, January
