Fayette sets one-day COVID record, college cases on the rise
FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The coronavirus numbers continue to pile up as the surge that started gripping the state three weeks ago continues to now spread across Lexington.
Lexington reached a new one-day high of COVID-19 cases Thursday with 181 reported, which also pushed the total to 12,005 cases. Crossing the 12,000 mark happened in the shortest timeframe yet from the 11,000 mark, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s daily report Friday morning.
The county has had 945 cases in the last week and 3,053 cases since Oct. 5.
The county did not confirm any additional deaths, leaving the total at 101.
On a positive note, another 81 people have recovered, lifting that total to 10,119.
The number of new cases among college students reported to the health department also continued to be low, although it is beginning to climb more rapidly.
