Fayette School Board Approves Increase In Property Taxes

The Fayette County Board of Education unanimously voted to raise property taxes Monday night.

The increase will mean the owner of a $100,000 house in Lexington will now pay an extra $22,000 a year, according to Fayette County school officials.

The tax increase will now move to the state’s Board of Education for approval. If it’s approved by the state, it will go into effect this October or November, according to officials.

The tax increase is expected to raise more than $164 million for the district over the next fiscal year, officials said.
